Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival is the largest photography event in the world, and a premiere cultural event in Canada. The not-for-profit festival is devoted to celebrating and fostering the art and profession of photography. Oil at the ROM’s Institute for Contemporary Culture features beautiful and provocative large-format photographs by internationally renowned Canadian artist Edward Burtynsky. His images explore the effects of oil extraction, our international dependency on the substance, and the reality of oil production as its role in our civilization undergoes massive transformation. CONTACT runs May 1st – 31st 2011.
